I purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade yesterday and tried installing it today. Just for it to say that it is not valid.I copied and pasted the product key that was provided to me. I tried reentering it several times.

And everything is all good.R un a MGA diagnostic report as George suggested, but also:If the key on your laptop is unreadable call the manufacturer for a replacement - you shouldn't need to buy another one. Also, if you reinstall Windows with the manufacturers disk you usually don't need to enter a key.
He bought it from Microsoft. A friend of ours gave us his product key so we could at least get the computer running (wasn't sure if it would work, but it did). After it was installed, we received a message from Microsoft stating we may be a victim of counterfeitproduct key. We downloaded and ran the Windows Activation Update to see if our product key entered from our friend was valid (which obviously was not since it was our friends key from when he purchased his laptop).
After it said that it was not a valid key,it directed us to the Microsoft site that let him purchase a new key.
